Tinted SPF, explained

Sunscreen is the step that looks after everything else you do in the morning. Here is what is in Light Touch, why it is a tint rather than a shade, and how to make the most of it every day.

What’s inside Light Touch.

Light Touch is our Omega Rich Tinted Sunscreen SPF30. Its key ingredients are zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, alongside sea buckthorn, squalane and hyaluronic acid. It is designed to help protect, even and hydrate.

One thing to know: Light Touch is not vegan, because it contains beeswax. Please read the full ingredient list on the product page before you try it.

What the UV filters do.

Zinc oxide and titanium dioxide are the UV filters in Light Touch. Put simply, they are the ingredients that help protect your skin from the sun, and they are where its SPF30 comes from.

The other ingredients are there for how your skin feels. Squalane is a lightweight emollient that helps skin feel smooth and soft. Hyaluronic acid helps skin look and feel hydrated. Sea buckthorn, a vivid orange berry oil, helps skin feel nourished. It is also in our vitamin C serum, Radiance.

A tint, not a shade.

Light Touch has a sheer tint. It is not a foundation, and it is not matched to a particular skin tone. There is one tint rather than a range of shades, and it is there to help even the look of your skin while you protect it.

That makes it a good choice on days when you want to look fresh without much effort. If you like more coverage, you can apply your usual make-up over it once it has settled.

Why SPF is the last step.

Light Touch is made to be the last step every morning. The order is simple:

  • Cleanse with Refresh.
  • Apply your serum, such as Radiance, Poise or Nourish.
  • Smooth on your moisturiser, with a gel booster such as Vitality mixed in if you like.
  • Finish with Light Touch.

Putting sunscreen on last means it sits as the top layer, rather than being rubbed or mixed with other products afterwards. Give your moisturiser a moment to settle before you apply it, and avoid mixing boosters into your SPF: boosters belong in your moisturiser.

If you use Restore in the evening, Light Touch the next morning completes that routine.

How much to apply.

Sunscreen works best when you use enough of it, and many of us apply less than we think. Be generous rather than sparing, and cover your face evenly, including the sides of your face, your hairline and your neck if you are wearing it there. Follow the directions on the pack for how much to use.

Reapplying through the day.

Sunscreen can be rubbed, sweated or washed off as the day goes on. If you are spending time outdoors, reapply as directed on the pack, and especially after swimming, sweating or towel drying.

Sunscreen is also only one part of sun protection. Shade, a hat and covering up all count too, particularly in the middle of the day in summer.

Every morning, whatever the weather.

It is easy to think of SPF as something for holidays, but Light Touch is designed for every morning, whatever the weather. That is why it finishes both The Glow Ritual and The Comfort Ritual. You can see how each ritual fits together on our rituals page.

As with anything new, introduce Light Touch on its own rather than alongside other new products, so you can see how your skin gets on with it. If you have questions, our FAQs are a good place to start.
